Collection and storage of personal data as well as the type, purpose and use thereof
The term "personal data" refers to all data that can be personally attributed to you. This includes, for example, name, address, email addresses, IP address.
Log files
Every time a user accesses the online offering of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and every time a file is retrieved, data about this process is technically and temporarily stored and processed in a log file:
- the IP address (this is anonymized immediately after access)
- date and time
- page accessed/name of the file retrieved
- amount of data transferred
- notification of whether the access/retrieval was successful
The purpose of the data collection is the mandatory protection against network attacks, the improvement of the offering, and the creation of usage statistics. This data is stored for one week.
The legal basis for the data processing is Art. 6(1) sentence 1 lit. b GDPR (necessity to safeguard legitimate interests).
Cookies
When individual pages are accessed, so-called temporary cookies are used to facilitate navigation. These session cookies do not contain any personal data and expire at the end of the session.
Contact form
If you contact us by email, the data you send us with the email will be stored. The processing of this personal data serves solely to handle your inquiries. The data will be deleted as soon as we have fully processed your inquiries. You may revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time.
Newsletter
On our website you can subscribe to a free newsletter. With the BBAW newsletter we keep you up to date on the Academy. To sign up to receive the newsletter, you must provide the mandatory data we request:
- Surname
- First name
- Email address
If you provide further personal data when signing up, this is voluntary. This data is entered into a separate distribution list and is stored permanently. You may revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. You can unsubscribe from the distribution list via the same page. Your data will then be completely deleted.
Ordering publications
On our website you can order or directly download central publications of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. If you would like the requested information sent to your home or office by post, please provide your personal or business address details here. To sign up to receive the publications, you must provide the mandatory data we request:
- Surname
- First name
- Street
- Postal code/City
The data is stored solely for the purpose of shipping the ordered publications; it is completely deleted after the order has been processed. If you provide further personal data when signing up, this is voluntary. You may revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time.
Registration for events
You can register for certain events via a dedicated URL for that event. During registration you must provide the mandatory data we request:
- Surname
- First name
- Email address
The purpose is to avert the risks that would arise from a possible overcrowding of the event. For this purpose, a list of registered participants is created from the registrations. Access control at the event is carried out on the basis of this list. After the event has ended, both this list and the underlying registration data are deleted immediately and completely. If you provide further personal data when registering, this is voluntary. You may revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time.
Subscribing to event information
You can arrange to be regularly informed about the public events of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. When signing up you must provide the mandatory data we request:
- Surname
- First name
- Email address
If you provide further personal data when signing up, this is voluntary. This data is entered into a separate distribution list. The data is stored until revoked/unsubscribed. You may revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. The event information is sent out regularly by email. Every email contains a note on how to unsubscribe from the distribution list. After you unsubscribe, your data will be completely deleted.
Entry in the press distribution list
On our website you can have yourself entered in the press distribution list. This allows us to inform you about our events, research projects and publications. When signing up you must provide the mandatory data we request:
- Surname
- First name
- Email address
- Street
- Postal code/City
If you provide further personal data when signing up, this is voluntary. This data is entered into a separate distribution list. The data is stored until revoked/unsubscribed. You may revoke your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. After you unsubscribe, your data will be completely deleted.
Disclosure of data to third parties
Your personal data is not transmitted to third parties. No automated decision-making and no profiling take place. It is not intended that the data be processed for any purposes other than those stated.
Rights of the data subject
With respect to the personal data concerning you, you have the following rights against us:
- pursuant to Art. 15 GDPR, to request information about your personal data processed by us;
- pursuant to Art. 16 GDPR, to immediately request the correction of inaccurate or the completion of your personal data stored by us;
- pursuant to Art. 17 GDPR, to request the erasure of your personal data stored by us (except in the cases referred to in Art. 17(3) GDPR);
- pursuant to Art. 18 GDPR, to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data, insofar as the accuracy of the data is disputed by you, the processing is unlawful but you refuse its erasure and we no longer need the data but you require it for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims, or you have objected to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR;
- pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR, to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. As a rule, you may contact the supervisory authority of your usual place of residence or of our location for this purpose.
Right to object
Since your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6(1) sentence 1 lit. f GDPR, you have the right, pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR, to object to the processing of your personal data, insofar as there are grounds for doing so arising from your particular situation. If you wish to exercise your right to object, an email to datenschutz@bbaw.de is sufficient.
Use of analysis tools and other tools such as Matomo (formerly Piwik), etc.:
This website uses Matomo (formerly Piwik), open-source software for the statistical analysis of visitor access. Matomo does not use tracker cookies (it operates with the "enforce tracking without cookies" function)!
The IP address is anonymized immediately after processing and before it is stored.
